Sony Forum readers: I cannot get any of my FX plug-ins to work in Sony Vegas Pro 8.0c. Background: I think the disc I bought off of Ebay about 2 years ago is some sort of trial copy though it had a serial number I have registered with Sony. (it was offered as a 'FULL' version.) I first got concerned about this when my DVD Architect quit working after a set period. The dialog box indicated that I needed to buy a FULL version or upgrade for the DVD Architect to remain functional. I have since tried to clarify with Sony that if my program was a registered full copy then I should also have a full working copy of DVD Architect but they have not bothered to reply on this side issue.

So I have been trying to get my FX effects to work and have linked 4 of the basic ones together on a 3 minute test clip but they are not taking effect. I have moved the slider diamonds in the 'timeline/trimmer' box thinking that may have something to do with it, I have pre-selected the video clip to no avail, I have read the Help pages but do not fully understand part of what they are saying. How do you get the plug in effect to actually affect the video clip is my fundamental question.

Nothing shows in the video preview window. I have looked at a You Tune tutorial on this and my version does not show the effects occurring in the clip. Is there a check box in Preferences to active the FX Plugins? (I didn't see anything.) Some other questions I have are: Does the program only provide a limited number of FX plug ins to work with? I have been creating basic movies for several years now just fine with this but when trying out the Hue, Saturation, Brightness, Color to Black and White then these are presenting unknown problems. What is the way to not 'bypass' the video preview window fx effects aspect? I have looked at the page margins and such for any checkmarks or icons that may relate to something like what you are talking about but everything seems in order. And, I have checked the options and preferences pages and that looks okay also. The FX Dialog box comes up fine after I drop the effect on the clip but no FX changes show on the actual clip video view. However tonight I will review your suggestions when I return to the Vegas Program.

The top 2 are Bypass FX and then Clipboard. Then there is a dividing line then 3 selections, right side, left side apply and all.

So I tried to unselect Bypass FX but then it switches to Clipboard. At that point my video preview screen went dark. So, I suppose I should select the Clipboard View?? Anyway I went on and saw my FX changes when I selected right or left side views but when I selected 'all' it did not show up in the video preview window.

Also, the FX changes were not reflected in the clip at the bottom of the screen. How could I tell what is really happening?? Then I had a brilliant deduction. Maybe I have to 'render' the FX effects then open that new look project and see what happened. So I selected 'all', saved and rendered as an.avi.

Then I opened the clip in WMP and it was great as the FX was applied all throughout the video. So now I know that the FX works, in general. My next goal is to find if there is a clipboard view and see if 'all' shows up in that view. So thanks for the tip on the FX Bypass, Peter Wright. That was great.
